Cricket

I've been following international cricket for a while now, so it was only a matter of time before I tried playing it. I first picked up a cricket bat in March and shortly afterwards joined the University cricket club and midweek league team. And I'm really enjoying it! Contrary to popular opinion, cricket is easy to get into, exciting to watch, and a lot of fun to play. I am a lower-order batsman and our team's head scorekeeper.

Our 2011 midweek season ended as it began: with a nail-biting finish at Beacon Hill Park, ending in a loss determined only in the final over. In our first match, our run chase came up only three runs short; in our last, our opponents hit their target with only one wicket and five balls remaining. However, the season as a whole was a resounding success. Our team played well, winning half of our games and keeping the rest close. The University team also introduced several new players (including me!) to the game; we fielded at least one new player in every match we played. I look forward to next season!
